On
a recent visit to the Iraqi theater of military operations
Congressman Jeff Miller
(R-FL) had an opportunity to meet three individuals making real
progress in world peace. Two are out front on the world stage, General
David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker. The third is a Pensacola,
Florida man who is directly involved with every action taking place.
Major
Everett Spain is the Aide-de-Camp to
General Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force – Iraq.
He is a class of 1988 graduate of Washington High School. Subsequent to
high school Everett graduated number 3 in the West Point class of 1992.
Following West Point, 2nd Lieutenant Spain graduated from US Army Ranger
School and spent three years in the 82d Airborne Division. As a company
commander in Europe, he deployed to Kosovo, where his unit received the
Emerson Itschner Award, given annually to the best engineer company in the
US Army. In 2001, Everett received a Masters Degree from Duke
University's Fuqua School of Business and started teaching Military
Leadership and Leading Change at West Point. While at Duke, Everett was
responsible for starting the Leadership Development Initiative (LDI), a
volunteer organization that focuses on developing the leadership ability
and character of the MBA candidates. The LDI and is now the largest
student-run organization at Duke's Business School.
Everett
Spain is the son of Bill and Anna Spain (a local Pensacola doctor) and the
baby brother of Adrianna Spain (a local Pensacola Attorney). He and his
wife Julia, have 3 sons and 1 daughter.
Major Spain's behind the scenes activities are
directly involved in the day to day work that is being done in Baghdad,
Iraq. His core principles and vision are shared by the United States Army
and are being implemented on a daily basis in Iraq. Those core values
were created right here in Pensacola, Florida. The US Army appreciates
those Pensacola values as well, as Major Spain was recently selected for
promotion to Lieutenant Colonel.
Congressman Miller said that he is honored to
represent individuals and families from Northwest Florida with the ideals
and principles of Major Everett Spain. |
